Around fifty cars have been smeared with what seems to be human bodily fluid in the Germany's city of Hanau near Frankfurt, according to police.
Cars, building surfaces and postboxes were vandalized, occasionally with Nazi symbols, they stated in a release.
Police state they were notified late on Wednesday night, when a resident observed that a vehicle in the Lamboy area of Hanau had been covered with a reddish-hued liquid.
The substance had been placed in the shape of a banned symbol, they stated.
Officers then discovered multiple other smeared automobiles and residential walls in the adjacent neighborhood.
These symbols are banned in Germany under regulations banning the public exhibition of Nazi-era symbols.
Officials report preliminary tests show the substance was probably blood from a person.
"There is still no lead as to its origin; officials are currently not informed of any harm in relation with the occurrence," they commented.
Municipal representatives said they were working "to resolve the incident" and have appealed to the residents for tips.
A high-ranking political figure stated the incident left him stunned and needed to be solved promptly.
"This incident hits the very heart of Hanau and revives the pain of the extremist violent incident half a decade ago," he posted on online, mentioning the killing of nine people by a shooter focusing on individuals of immigrant origin in 2020.
